The onset of this disease is usually due to the transmission dysfunction of the large intestine that could be induced if there is a heat accumulation in the stomach and intestine, or liver qi stagnation, deficiency of qi and blood, or deficiency of kidney yang. The treatment  principle is to promote the smooth flow of qi in the large intestine.  The main points selected should be the Back-Shu point, the Front-Mu point as well as the Lower He-Sea point of the large intestine such as Tianshu (ST25), Dachangshu (BL25), Shangjuxu (ST 37) and Zhigou (TE6); the combination of points should be determined on a case-by- case basis. In the case of heat accumulation in the stomach and intestine, Quchi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Neiting (ST 44) and Fujie (SP 14) should be combined; in the case ofliver qi stagnation, Taichong (LR 3), Yanglingquan (GB 34) and Ganshu(BL 18); in the case of the deficiency of qi and blood, Pishu (BL 20), Zusanli (ST 36), Qihai (ren 6), Sanyinjiao (SP6) and Geshu (BL17); in the case of deficiency in kidney yang, Shenshu (BL 23), Guanyuan Ren 4) and Shenque (Ren 8). The treatment discussed in this section should be taken as a reference to the treatment of habitual Constipation.
