1) Hot Toddy
Make a hot toddy for chest congestion.  You will find this soothing on your throat, your cough will be greatly reduced and you will have a warm feeling of well being.  For this to work properly the toddy must be heated slowly bringing it up to the point that bubbles are just starting to break loose – just before a boil.  DO NOT use a microwave.  Microwaves alter the molecular structure of the ingredients.  Into a saucepan with two tablespoons of water, squeeze the juice of two lemons (use fresh lemons).  Add a quarter cup of honey to this and bring it up to the point of boiling. Then set this to the side and allow it to cool down for 10 minutes.  Put in a shot or two of rum according to taste.  Let the entire concoction cool down to the point that it is pleasantly warm. Dosage is one tablespoon at a time and it can also be mixed with regular tea.  Bourbon can also be used.  This recipe can also be made without rum or bourbon for children if desired.  I have given it to my children with the rum in it.

2) Hot Pepper
Eat hot peppers and cayenne to get rid of congestion and allergies.  Stay away from cold foods and liquids.  Dairy is very bad when you are congested.

In a bowl, mix half tablespoon of water, quarter teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of cinnamon, and a teaspoon of white Tiger’s Balm.  Put this all into a small bowl and let it set for awhile.  Soak a cloth in hot water and wring it out. Put the cloth over your eyes, nose and mouth and breathe in the vapors until the congestion starts to break loose.

3) Steam Home Remedy for Congestion
In my experience a good home remedy for chest congestion is to steam yourself.  This also works good on sinus congestion and a cough.  Here is how to do steaming. Bring 6 cups of water to a boil.  Have a towel and a bowl large enough to hold the water ready.  When the water has come to a boil, sit at the kitchen table and pour the steaming hot water into the bowl.  As quickly as possible, sit down and drape the whole towel over your head and put your face over the bowl of hot water. Use the towel to trap the heat and steam.  Breath in deeply to pull the steam into your lungs or breathe through your nose to relieve nasal congestion.  Do this for about 20 minutes and you will clear up considerably.  You will want to keep your eyes closed or the steam may cause some discomfort there. Try to lean as close to the bowl as you can.  You will sweat some but you will feel the congested pressure in your chest breaking up and going away.  Your nose will open up and start to run.

4) Pepperming Oil
I get horrible allergies and sinus problems.  Today I decided I was through with that.  I was determined.  So I came upon this fast and effective home remedy for congestion.  I had a bottle of pure peppermint oil  and I put a small amount on my finger and put it around and just inside my nostrils.  Then I started trying to breathe through my nose.  Just a few minutes of this and my nose was opening up and then I totally cleared up!  Do this every few hours or as needed.  It does burn a little when you put it on but it is harmless and it really does work
