Our human body consists of various systems that take care of proper functioning and working of the body. Every system has its own importance and for a healthy body, each should work in coordination with the other. The system which enables the body to move physically with the use of muscles and skeletal systems is known as musculo-skeletal system or locomotor system. The human skeleton comprising of bones which are attached to other bones by joints and the skeletal muscles attached by tendons to the skeleton are part of musculo- skeleton system. The musculo-skeletal system shields our internal organs and brain. It also sustains our posture upright. It facilitates the storage of fats and minerals. The movement of the body is dependent on appropriate working of the musculo-skeletal system. It produces heat in the body, during the contraction of the muscles.
Musculo-Skeletal System
Major musculo-skeletal muscles are positioned at major areas of our body namely, facial, forearm, thorax, hip, leg, pelvis, neck, abdomen, shoulder and arm. These muscles vary in form, magnitude and arrangement of fibers. The muscle of skeleton includes hundred of fibers of muscles which are packaged together. The muscles of skeleton are elastic and brittle. In the human body there are three sorts of muscles. First, skeletal muscles which are attached to bones and facilitates the movement, hence they are under the conscious control or voluntarily controlled. The other types of muscles are smooth muscles, which are found in the walls of hollow organs such as, the gastrointestinal tract and uterus. The working of these muscles cannot be controlled and hence are involuntary. The other types of muscles are cardiac muscles, which are positioned in the walls of the heart and are controlled by nervous system and are involuntary.
The reasons of malfunctioning of the musculo-skeletol system can be various ailments, traumas, genetic, congenital or pathological. The loss of function may be due to the deformity of the bone or joints, spine, fractures or extended period of convalescence. Ailments such as arthritis, tumors or osteoporosis are resultant of disorder of musculo-skeletal system. Any injury to the brain which may results in the breakdown of the impulses affects the functioning of various muscles.
Methods such as, Chiropractic and acupuncture, meditation, naturopathy and neuromuscular therapy are supportive in mitigating the pain prompted by musculo-skeletal system. The proper diet is also essential for the healthy function of the musculo-skeletal system as it depends largely depends on all the essential nutrients such as, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals.
