The source is from Rhizome of Discorea hypoglauca Polibin and several other species of the same genus, family Dioscoreaceae, or some species of Smilax (Liliaceae) are also used medicinally. The medicinal material is mainly produced in the areas of Zhejiang, Hubei, and Guangxi, etc.. Dug and collected in spring and autumn, cut into pieces, dried in the sun and the crude form is used.

Medicinal Properties: Bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature and attributive to the liver and stomach meridians.

Actions: Eliminate dampness and turbidity, and expel wind.

Application
1. The herb is used for chyloid stranguria and whitish turbid urine and is the main one for treating turbid urine or chyloid stranguria. It is usually combined with Wuyao (Radix Linderae ), Yizhiren ( Fructus Alpiniae Oxgphyllae), and Shichangpu (Rhizoma Acori Graminei), etc., such as Bixie Fen qing Yin (Decoction).
2. For Bi-syndrome of dampness type manifested as bodily heaviness, sore and painful waist and knees, it is usually combined with Yiyiren (Semen Coicis), Cangzhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis ), and Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae ) , etc..

Usage and Dosage: 10 - 15 g is used in decoction for oral use.
