The source is from the herb of Eclipta prostrata L., family Compositae. The medicinal material is mainly produced in all parts of China. The whole herb is pulled out in summer and autumn and cleaned. The fresh can be used or dried in the sun, and then cut into segments.
Medicinal Properties: Sweet and sour in flavor, cold in nature and attributive to the liver and kidney meridians.
Actions: Nourish liver-yin and kidney-yin, cool the blood and arrest bleeding.
Application
1. For deficiency of liver-yin and kidney-yin manifested as dizziness, premature whitening of hair, soreness and weakness of waist and knees, seminal emission and tinnitus, it is usually combined with Nüzhenzi (Fructus Ligustri Lucidi), such as Erzhi Wan (Pill).
2. For yin deficiency and blood-heat manifested as hemoptysis, epistaxis, hemafecia, hematuria and metrorrhagia, it can be used alone or also usually combined with Shengdihuang ( Radix Rehmannia ), Ejiao ( Colla Corii Asini), Puhuang (Pollen Typhae) and others that can moisten yin, cool the blood and arrest bleeding, so as to strengthen therapeutic effects. It is also used externally to treat bleeding due to wound.
Usage and Dosage:
10 -15 g is used in decoction for oral use, the fresh should be doubled in amount. Just right amount is used externally and pounded for application.
