Chinese medicine has gained recognition in international market

Twenty three batches of traditional Chinese medicine were exported from Taicang Port in the first half of the year according to the entry and exit inspection and quarantine bureau.

The exports weighed 8.2 tons and carried a total value of 1.22 million yuan ($182,000), a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

Chinese herbal medicine is a new commodity exported from Taicang Port. Exports from the port have increased from April, ever since a local pharmaceutical company successfully exported three kinds of Chinese herbal medicine to Germany. By the middle of the year, exports had quadrupled.

An official from the entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau said that three factors have contributed to the export volume growth of traditional Chinese medicine. First is that Chinese herbal medicine has gained recognition in the international market. Second is that national General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine released measures outlining the supervision and administration of imported and exported traditional Chinese medicine last December. The measures detail specifications and standards to manage related export issues. Third is that Taicang Customs has set up a prequalification mechanism to speed up the customs procedures of Chinese herbal medicine.

The official added that the traditional Chinese medicine is rooted in the main culture of Chinese nationality. Its exportation will help to boost the growth of international trade and promote the fine traditional Chinese culture worldwide.
