United Family Healthcare, China's largest international network of hospitals and clinics, and Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital signed an agreement on Tuesday to build a hospital in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong.
United Family Healthcare will provide the investment and management, and Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital will supply its expertise, talent and technology, said Chen Dacan, president of Guangdong Provincial TCM Hospital.
The new hospital will be completed in 2015 and go into operations in 2016, combining Chinese and Western medicines, said Roberta Lipson, chairwoman of United Family Healthcare.
The hospital, the fifth in United Family Healthcare's network in China, will be its largest hospital among the five, Lipson said.
The hospital will also be a point of reference as Guangzhou reforms its healthcare system, said Gong Erzhen, deputy mayor of Guangzhou.
With a permanent population of more than 10 million, the city has seen an increasing demand for healthcare services, Gong said. For further information about Chinese medicine, please click to learn Ways to treat cough with Chinese medicine.
