Vice-minister Wang Guoqiang inspects Ebola prevention work in Beijing

Wang Guoqiang, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), led a supervision group to inspect Ebola prevention work in Beijing on October 29. He heard the reports from Beijing’s relevant departments; inspected the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control and Beijing Chaoyang District Center for Disease Control and Prevention; and asked relevant departments to strengthen Ebola prevention, ensuring the successful convocation of the 2014 APEC summit.

Wang said that the Beijing municipal committee and government paid great attention to Ebola prevention, and launched the command for a public health emergency; formulated a prevention plan; and cleared the responsibilities of local government, departments, units and individuals in order to jointly fight against Ebola. They also cooperated with the port quarantine department, using the Ebola prevention information system to strengthen the health monitoring of people from Ebola-affected areas; specified preventive measures according to different situations with the cooperation of Beijing’s Municipal Education Commission, departments of business, housing, tourism, foreign affairs and the food and drug administration. Departments involving in Ebola prevention held conferences together every day, setting up an early warning reporting system for disease prevention in Beijing.

Wang stressed that Beijing should strengthen the Ebola prevention work; timely adjust preventive measures according to the situation; improve the early warning reporting system, sharing information and jointly taking measures; organize drills to deal with Ebola; improve the role of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in fighting against contagious diseases; and publicize health knowledge through the Internet and APPs to let people know about Ebola.
