Petechiae are pinpoint, round spots that appear on the skin as a result of bleeding. The bleeding causes the petechiae to appear red, brown or purple. Petechiae commonly appear in clusters and may look like a rash. Usually flat to the touch, petechiae don't lose color when you press on them. Sometimes they appear on the inner surfaces of the mouth or the eyelids. Petechiae are common and may indicate a number of conditions, ranging from minor to very serious.
Causes
Tiny blood vessels (capillaries) link the smallest parts of your arteries to the smallest parts of your veins. Petechiae appear when capillaries bleed, leaking blood into the skin. A number of things can cause this bleeding, including:
-- Leukemia
-- Prolonged straining
-- Certain medical conditions
-- Specific types of injuries
-- Medications
-- Injuries and sunburn
Petechiae Home Remedies
-- Eat nutritious foods especially those high in vitamin C and B vitamins.
-- Lessen intake of Vitamin E, garlic, ginger, and ginko. They can contribute to easy bleeding.
Treatment For Petechiae
-- Mix a few drops of St. John’s wort to a cream and apply on the area.
-- You can apply sliced raw onion on the area but not in open wounds.
-- Mix one part cayenne pepper and five parts melted Vaseline. Let it cool and apply to the petechiae once daily.
-- Apply macerated cabbage to the area. It has anti-inflammatory effects.
-- Mix some drops of Arnica tincture to a cup of water. Soak a clean towel and apply to the affected area.
