Cirrhosis is the severe scarring of the liver and poor liver function seen at the terminal stages of chronic liver disease. The scarring is most often caused by long-term exposure to toxins such as alcohol or viral infections. The liver is located in the upper right side of the abdomen below the ribs. It has many essential body functions. These include:
producing bile, which helps your body absorb dietary fats, cholesterol, and vitamins A, D, E, and K
storing sugar and vitamins for later use by the body
purifying blood by removing toxins such as alcohol and bacteria from your system
creating blood clotting proteins
Symptoms of Cirrhosis
The symptoms of cirrhosis occur because the liver is unable to purify the blood, break down toxins, produce clotting proteins, and help with absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins. Often there are no symptoms until the disorder has progressed. Some of the symptoms include:
decreased appetite
nose bleeds
jaundice (yellow discoloration)
small spider-shaped arteries underneath the skin
weight loss
anorexia
itchy skin
weakness
Home Remedies for Jaundice
Jaundice is a serious condition which could in fact be a precursor to the more deadly and fatal condition, hepatitis. Hence, the cure for jaundice should be sought immediately from a medical professional. However, there are certain things that can be done at the household level in order to control the symptoms of jaundice, and to help in speedy recovery from the disease. The following is a list of some of those home remedies, which are not treatment methods in themselves, but they are rather supplementary to the treatment provided by medical science:-
Take the bark of a banyan tree (Ficus religiosa). Grind it to a powder of a fine consistency. Then put about one gram of this powder into buttermilk. Drink one or two glasses of this buttermilk daily. This will reduce the yellowness of the skin and will hasten the recovery from jaundice. This is one of the useful home remedies for jaundice.
Roast some gram and crush it coarsely. Put this in a glassful of sugarcane juice. Drink one glassful of this once every day. This will not only treat the jaundice, but it will also cause a permanent remedy for the condition.
Take fifteen leaves of the bael tree (Aegle marmelos) and grind them thoroughly. Drink these once every day. This remedy is effective in treating even the most severe cases of jaundice.
Take ten grams of the powder of ginger. Mix this powder in some jaggery. Put this in a glassful of lukewarm water. Drinking this once every day for a whole week helps in permanent treatment of jaundice.
Take ten grams of finely powdered turmeric powder. Mix this in fifty to hundred grams of curds. Eat this mixture once every day. It will give effective relief from jaundice. This is a good jaundice home remedies.
Prepare a decoction of chicory (Chichorium intybus). All parts of the chicory – the flowers, seeds and roots – are effective in treatment. About 30 to 60 milliliters of this decoction must be taken on a daily basis. It helps in the stoppage of bile and hence, brings about treatment of jaundice.
