Fuxi and Niiwa

Mural from grotto No.285 of Mogauku, Dunhuang. The upper half of the mural are Fuxi (left) and Nuwa (right), believed to be the gods who created human beings, alao the gods of the Sun and Moon. In the lower part of the mural, two nude rishi (guardian) hold Mani pearls in their hands as monks on earth and gods in the Celestial Palace meditate. The atmosphere of the scene, partly static, partly dynamic,is profound.
