It means to use the acupoints with the same curative effect together according to the pathological condition in question.
1. Proximal Compatibility
The proximal acupoints at or near the location of the disease are combined to strengthen the therapeutic effects. For example, Cuanzhu (BL 2), Yangbai (GB 14), Yuyao (EX-HN 4), Tongziliao (GB l) and Sizhukong (TE 23) are selected to treat facial hemiplegia and distorted mouth and inability to close the eyes; Taiyang (EX-HN 5), Touwei (ST8) and Shuaigu (GB 8) are selected to treat migraine; Jianyu (11 15), Jianliao (TE 14), Jianzhen (SI 9) and Naoshu (SI 10) are selected to treat swelling and pain of the shoulder.

2. Compatibility of Distal-proximal Acupoints
This way of combining acupoints is for strengthening the curative effect. Usually the acupoints on the same meridian or the meridians with external-internal relationship or the meridians with the same name are selected. For example, Dicang (ST 4) and Hegu (11 4) are selected to treat distorted face; Tinghui (GB 2) and Zhongzhu (TE 3) are selected to treat tinnitus and deafness; Fengchi (GB 20) and Houxi (SI 3) as well as Kunlun (BL 60) are selected to treat stiffness and pain of the head and neck; Feishu (BL 13) and Lieque (LU 7) are selected to treat cough; Zhongwan (CV 12) and Zusanli (ST 36) are selected to treat stomachache; Tianshu (ST 25), Zusanli (ST 36) and Yinlingquan (SP 9) are selected to treat diarrhea.

3. Compatibility of Anterior-Posterior Acupoints
The acupoints located on the chest and abdomen is combined with those on the back to strengthen the therapeutic effect. This method is mainly used to treat zang-fu syndromes. For example, Juque (CV 14) and Xinshu (BL15) are selected to treat palpitation; Zhongwan (CV 12) and Weishu (BL 21) are selected to treat stomachache.
