1. Relative specificity research about the single point
The single point specificity refers to the functional difference between single point and the non-acupuncture points, as well as other general acupuncture points. Namely, certain single point have obvious curative effect to some illnesses or system diseases. At present most people believe that, the single point functional specificity has both the universality and the relative specificity.
(1) The functional difference between the single point and non-acupuncture points
The single point specificity first displays in the difference of the acupuncture effect between the acupuncture point and the non-acupuncture point. Clinic and experiment both proved that acupuncture on the single point has obvious functions, and acupuncture on the non-acupuncture point mostly has little or no function. For instance, needle ST36, leukocyte phagocyte index (average number for each leukocyte lick up bacilli ) rises from 1.74 to 3.67: phagocyte ability (the number of phagocyticable white blood cells in every 100 white blood cells, i.e. its percentage) rises from 48.16% to 71.25%." needle non-point, leukocyte phagocyte index drops from 1.62 to 1.50. phagocyte capability drops from 49.44 to 47.11. no distinct change.
(2) Cure functionary differentia between different meridians and points
Each point has some special function. Generally speaking, there are obvious corresponding relations between the acupuncture effect and the rule of its belonging vital energy circulates. Certain points have more effect to their rooting organ than that of other points. This is so-called "channels and collaterals, main treats achieve". For example, needling points of Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang, GB34, it can increase the gallbladder movement and drainage. But if needling the non-gallbladder acupuncture points, LU4. LU5. LU9, or non-points, there is no remarkable effects.
The functional difference between PC6, ST36 also proves the relative functional specificity among different vital energy circulates and acupuncture points. ① Tie up the left front of the canine coronary artery, work model acute-myocardial infarction, needle PC6, it has an effect of reducing the scope of the acute cardiac arrest. Comparing with legating group, after the restore fills flow for 2, 5. 10, 15 minutes, there is a remarkable difference on the average elevation of the electrocardiogram ST section, while needling ST36. there has no such affection. There is no statistics signification compared with legating group.
Comparing PC6 with ST36, after loosing the tie for 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes. P<O.O1. It evidences that PC6 is quite different from ST36 in reducing acute myocardial infarction range. ② In terms of the influence of acupuncture to the stomach and intestines movement, ST36 function more obviously than PC6. For example, needle ST36 has an obvious suppression to the stomach movement and the stomach electricity activity of the domestic rabbit, but needle PC6. it has the effect but far less satisfying. Some studied ST36, PC6, DU26 and RN24 in order to find out their function of restraining stomach hiccup. The result indicated the order of their inhibitory action is ST36> DU26. RN24 group>PC6 group, differentia between each group has notable signification. (P<0.001 )
(3) The functional difference among different acupuncture points but the same meridian
Bases on meridian exoterica, different points of the meridian has different treatment range. For example, needle ST36, ST37, ST25 and so on can make the abdominal rumbling sound increase, and the strongest is ST36. Needle BL28 is mainly for rising the intrinsic pressure, but needle BL23 in the same meridian, the main function is to lower the intrinsic pressure. Although this kind of single point specificity is not absolute but relative, it provides certain basis in choosing the acupuncture point in clinical treatment.
