TCM Diagnosis for Colitis
In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors. When diagnosing a disease or a symptom, TCM doctors must follow the principle of "Syndrome Differentiation", and then "Suit the Remedy to the Case". In order to gain a right and valuable diagnosis, it's important and necessary for the doctor to learn the detailed health information of the patient, including his/her disease duration, age, sex, height, weight, family history, urine, stool, diet, sleep, sweat, energy, mood (emotion), as well as the tongue conditions and the palm conditions, etc. If you would want our expert to create a TCM diagnosis, please fill out the health form as requested.

The syndromes of this disease include excess and deficiency. Excess syndromes are caused by cold and dampness blocking the middle energizer, damp heat damaging the middle energizer and liver qi attacking the spleen; deficiency syndromes are due to deficiency of the spleen and stomach, declination of kidney yang and deficiency of both qi and yin.

Essentials for TCM Diagnosis
(1) Repeated attacks of abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyschesia with mucus and lassitude are the main symptoms of this disease. Diarrhea is predominant with blood, pus, mucus in the stools, accompanied with paroxysmal spastic colic pain. Different degrees of tenderness are present in the lower abdomen with hyperactive bowel sounds. Longterm diarrhea will cause emaciation and anemia.

(2) Small amount of leucocytes appears in microscopic examination of the stools.

(3) Congestion and edema of the colic mucosa plica and mucous secretion may be seen under fibercoloscope.

(4) Derangement of the intestinal plica mucosa is present in X-ray examination with barium enema.
