The main manifestations of this disease are swelling and pain in the vagina, or suppuration and rupture, accompanied by chills and fever. Relapse consumes healthy qi and makes the disease difficult to heal. Clinically the differentiation of syndrome should be done in light of the nature and degree of the pathological conditions as well as the accompanied symptoms. Usually sudden onset with chills and fever suggests heat and sthenia syndrome. Incomplete treatment and lingering of the disease or slow onset often lead to asthenia syndrome or syndrome with the mixture of asthenia and sthenia.
(1) Damp-heat syndrome
Main symptoms: At the acute stage, adhesion and obstruction of greater vestibular gland without infection may lead to retention cyst of the greater vestibular gland like cocoon. Infection leads to local redness, swelling, hot sensation, pain and pruritus, the prolonged duration of which results in suppuration with yellowish greasy tongue fur and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Clearing away heat and relieving toxin, draining dampness and relieving pain.
(2) Syndrome of blood stasis
Main symptoms: At the chronic stage, the symptoms are thickening and roughness of the local skin with cyanotic color, pudendal pruritus, or accompanied by cocoon-like mass in the pudendum, purplish tongue with slight yellow and greasy fur, and thin pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Activating blood and resolving stasis, clearing away damp-heat.
In Chinese medicine, when treating a disease, the doctors take everything into into consideration, including climatic changes, environmental variations, emotional changes, the diet, the urine and the stool, the sleep, and the disorder of sex life. That is the feature of the Three Pathogens Theory in TCM. This etiology doctrine built on the basis of the macro methodology entirely differs from that of Western medicine. It is on the basis of the microscopic and pathologic anatomy. But it is exactly a biological, psychological, social and new medical model that Western medicine is attempting to pursue. While Chinese medicine established its own system with this medical model two thousand years ago.
Chinese doctor doesn’t considers static anatomy as a starting point for understanding the diseases, and does not rely on detection equipments. On the contrary, Chinese doctor depends on the unique ways of TCM diagnosis to experience and study the human dynamic life information. Also it is based on syndrome differentiation to guide the disease therapy. This method not only can save a lot of examination fees for patients, but also can help doctors exchange with patients more closely, thus reflecting a real humanistic spirit.
