Meniere's disease is caused by labyrinthine hydrops, with paroxysmal light-headedness, undulatory deafness and tinnitus as its main symptoms. The disease prevails in middle-aged people. The cause of the illness is not very clear, possibly related to the dysfunction of vegetative nerve, endolymphatic dysfunction of absorption, and allergic reaction, etc. Pathologically, the disease mainly manifests as labyrinthine expansion due to hydrops which causes elevation of endolymphatic pressure, even rupture of vestibular membrane and mixture of endolymph and perilymph. The small perforation can heal spontaneously and can also rupture repeatedly and the big one may form permanent fistula.
