Syndrome differentiation and treatment
Therapeutic methods: Destroying pinworms to check itching and combining the internal therapy with the external one.

Prescription and drugs: Oral administration of Quchong Powder (Pinworms-expelling Powder) composed of 8 shares of Shijunzi (Fructus Quisqualis) and one share of Shengdahuang (unprepared Radix et Rhizoma Rhei). The ingredients are ground together into powder. It is taken one hour before the meal, 3 times a day, 0.3 g x (age+1) each time. The total daily amount should not exceed 12 g. Seven to ten days constitute a course of treatment.

External application of Baibu Decoction (Decoction of Radix Stemonae) 30 g of Baibu (Radix Stemonae) is decocted and condensed into 30 ml of the decoction. The decoction is kept until about lip. m. for retention-enema. 10 to 12 days constitute a course

External therapies
(1) Decoct ion of Congbai ( Bulbus Allii Fistulosi ) and Dasuan (Bulbus Allii) for Enema   30 g of Congbai( Bulbus Allii Fistulosi) and 30 g of Dasuan (Bulbus A1lii) are respectively decocted in 100 ml and 200 ml of water with slow fire until the two ingredients get mashed. Then the decoction is filtered for later use. Every night before bed time, 10 to 15 ml of the decoction is applied for retention-enema. 7 days constitute a course of treatment. It is applicable to killing parasites.

(2) Vinegar for enema   30 ml of vinegar is mixed with cool boiled water until the total volume reaches 100 ml for enema before bed time, once a day. It is applied to expel and destroy pinworms.

(3) Decoct ion of Huajiao ( Pericarpium Zanthoxyli ) for Enema   1,000 ml of water is added to 3 g of Huajiao and decocted for 40 to 50 minutes. Then, the decoction is filtered for retention-enema, once a day, 25 to 30 ml each time. The enema lasts continuously for 3 to 4 times. It is used to expel and destroy pinworms.

(4) Red pomegranate rind for fumigating and washing   30 g of Shiliupi ( Pericarpium Granati ) is crushed to thick powder. The 500 ml of water is added to it. When the water boils, add 15 g of vinegar to it. The anus is fumigated and washed with the decoction when the temperature is proper, once every night before bed time. It is used to kill parasites.

(5) External application with Realgar   20 g of Xionghuang (Realgar) is ground into very fine powder, then evenly mixed with 100 g of medicinal vaseline. Every night, the anus is washed clean. Then, a bit of the paste is applied on the part around the anus. In the next morning, the paste is wiped away with a piece of clean cloth. The external application of the paste lasts for 1 to 2 weeks. It is used to expel parasites.
