Food Therapy for Tonifying the Lung
Medicated diets for nourishing the lung are cooked by mixing materia medica chosen for recuperating the lung-qi, nourishing yin and moistening the lung into certain foods. They have the effects of tonifying the lung-qi, nourishing yin, moistening the lung and arresting cough, and are applicable to insuf ficiency of the lung-qi or deficiency of the lung-yin. Insufficiency of the lung-qi is manifested as shortness of breath, disinclination to talk, cough with thin and clear sputum, preference for warmth, spontaneous sweating, susceptibility to cold, pale complexion; while deficiency of the lung-yin is marked by cough, dry cough with no or little and sticky sputum, emaciation, tidal fever in the afternoon, night sweating, flushing of zygomatic regions, etc.
