Protein: Proteins increase urinary calcium, oxalate and uric acid excretion. Avoid high protein diets.
Calcium: You do not need to restrict your calcium/dairy intake, but do not overindulge. Women should continue taking Calcium supplements as prescribed by their physicians.
Sodium: Limit sodium/salt intake.
Oxalate: Avoid foods high in oxalate. Your urologist can provide you a list. Sticking to a diet low in oxalate is very difficult, but if you can become familiar with some of the foods highest in oxalate that you eat routinely, you can eliminate or limit them in your diet.
Fiber: Increase your fiber intake.
Vitamin C: Avoid excesses of Vitamin C. Up to 40% of the oxalate in urine comes from the conversion of ascorbic acid to oxalate.
Instructions:
Lemon juice or lemonade: Another natural remedy for kidney stones is lemon juice. Lemon juice is full of natural citrate, which inhibits kidney stone formation. It’s an easy and not bad tasting at home remedy to prevent kidney stones. Although lemonade may also work, commercially bought lemonade can contain too much sugar. You best bet is to make your own lemonade. Take a half cup of lemon juice and mix it with six cups of water. Drink a cup or two a day to prevent kidney stone formation. If it is too bitter to drink, add a sugar substitute to taste.
