The source is from the membrane of the gizzard of Callus domesticus Brisson, family Phasianidae. The medicinal material, after being cleaned, is dried in the sun and then ground into powder that can be used or the stir-baked for being used.
Medicinal Properties:
Sweet in flavor, bland in nature and attributive to the spleen, stomach, small intestine and bladder meridians.
Actions:
Strengthen the spleen to improve digestion, arrest seminal emission and relieve enuresis.
Application
1. It is used for indigestion, food accumulation, and infantile malnutrition. For milder cases, it is stir-baked singly and ground into powder for oral use; for the syndrome with food accumulation and fullness of epigastrium, it is combined with Shanzha (Fructus Crataegi), Maiya (Fructus Hordei Germinatus), etc. ; for infantile malnutrition due to spleen-deficiency, combined with Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae ), Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), and Fuling (Poria), etc..
2. It is used for syndromes of enuresis and emission. For enuresis, it is used in combination with Sangpiaoxiao ( Ootheca Mantidis ), Fupenzi ( Fructus Rubi ), etc.; for emission, used in combination with Lianzi (Semen Nelumbinis), Tusizi (Semen Cuscutae), etc..
In addition, it also has the action of eliminating stones, so it can be used for urinary and gall stones and usually combined with Jinqiancao (Herba Lysimachiae).
Usage and Dosage:
3 - 10 g is used in decoction for oral use; 1.5 - 3 g of the powder being taken with better effect.
