The "2015 World Medicine Summit", co- organized by the Organization Committee for World Medicine Summit and the Macao University of Science and Technology, opened here Tuesday, focusing on cutting-edge topics in the field of medical science.
The three-day summit was attended by more than 40 renowned scientists and scholars worldwide including Chen Zhu, president of the Chinese Medical Association, four Nobel Prize laureates, and six winners of Lasker Award and Gairdner Award.
At the summit, heated topics concerning Ebola virus, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), PM2.5 and respiratory diseases, HIV/AIDS and internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine will be discussed for the purpose of promoting international cooperation. Host Macao has done lots of works to construct a better high- quality health medical insurance system, expand the categories of medical services and move forward researches of modern medicine and traditional medicine, Liu Liang, president of the organizer, Macao University of Science and Technology, said in the welcome address.
The State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine and the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park have been established, and the Macao SAR government and the World Health Organization have formulated a cooperation plan for traditional medicine. Preparations are under way for the establishment of the World Health Organization Cooperation Center for Traditional Medicine, Liu Liang said.
Such steps have made Macao a fertile ground for attracting outstanding national and international talents to conduct research on modern and traditional Chinese medicine. The summit would act as a platform for scholars who can exchanging creative thinking and broaden visions, igniting new sparkles, Liu Liang added.
