Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus , and most frequently involved the last segment of the small intestine , the ileum . The disease is chronic and each patient develops differently ; there are people with severe symptoms with frequent exacerbations , and others who have long periods without symptoms even without treatment. This disease is most common in northern European countries , Canada and the US, while in the countries of southern Europe , Asia and Africa there is less affected.
