The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders that is published by the American Psychiatric Association lists hyperacusis as one of the possible signs indicating phencyclidine intoxication. In TCM, deficiency of kidney energy and depressed liver Qi is the main cause of hyperacousia.
