The greatest problem when a person has an esophagus ulcer is that if left undiagnosed and untreated, it can quickly begin to perforate and bleed.  At that time, the person is in a dangerous position physically.  Now, once a confirmed diagnosis is made, the individual would likely be placed on antibiotics as a means of killing off the bad bacteria in the case of H. pylori causing the esophagus ulcer. In addition, people are usually put on a specific diet while the ulcer goes through the healing process.

Once the ulcer begins to bleed, the person would expect to experience a number of symptoms such as heartburn or indigestion, as well as dark, tarry stools, and vomiting up bright red blood.  However, if the ulcer were to start bleeding heavily, the dark stools would change to bright red. Obviously, any bleeding within the body is dangerous so if someone were to notice these symptoms, medical attention would be needed right away.

The individual might experience other symptoms, such as abdominal cramping and nausea. For people who have pain with this type of lesion, it typically appears about three hours after eating but the catch 22 is that in some instances, not eating can make the pain worse. In rare occasions, pain from this type of condition can become so severe that a person would be woken from a dead sleep.  However, drinking a glass of milk or taking antacids usually calm the stomach.
