1. Grasping
The grasping is very similar to the pinching.Their names ale also
promiscuous together due to the writers’ habits in various books for the concepts of them are not very clear. Therefore, we put forward an agreement that the pinching refers to the manipulation in which only the skin and a little subcutaneous tissue are held; while the grasping refers to the manipulation that not only the skin and the subcutaneous tissues are held on the basis of pinching, but the muscles as well, then the tissues are slipped out of the fingers gradually(Fig 98, Fig 99).

The stimulation of grasping is relatively stronger, so you ought to extend the fingers and put the horizontal abdomen of the fingers on the skin. This movement is like the movement of a clip (Fig 99).You shouldn’t flex your fingers and put the sharp finger-nails on the skin to come into a pincer-form movement to avoid causing uncomfortable sensation to the patient. During the grasping manipulation, the wrist is relaxed, the movement is uninterrupted, and the strength is changed from light to heavy and from heavy to light (Fig 100).Grasping is applicable to the neck, shoulder and limbs where the muscles are well-developed. It has the actions of dredging blocked meridians, relaxing muscles, resolving the exterior and promoting sweat, relieving pain and activaring blood, thus treating such diseases as headache, stiff neck, arthralgia, soreness and distension of the muscle, common cold etc.

2. Seizing
Both in pinching and grasping, the manipulator compresses the tissues from both sides to the midline with the thumb and other fingers. If the manipulator compresses the center from several radiating-points with the fingers, this manipulation is called seizing(Fig 101). Seizing is a supplermentary manipulation and is not so frequently applied as pinching and grasping in the clinical practice. It is suitable for the head and abdominal regions to treat headache and abdominal pain. 3. Plucking Tendon
During the grasping manipulation, the fingers are gradually loosened to let the pinched skin and muscles back to their original places. If the fingers are loosened immediately to make the strained skin and muscles come back to their original places swiftly, the manipulation is called plucking tendon. (Fig 102). The plucking tendon is able to peel off adhesion and relieve muscle spasm, and is suitable for the venter musculi and tendons.

4. Squeezing
The force of pinching is very mild, which is usually controlled not to cause pain, and the pinchingis always manipulated from one part to another. If the compressing force of the thumb and the index finger is stronger and the movement is repeated at the same site until the subcutaneous capinary vessels are broken and some petechiae appear, the manipulation is named as squeezing, also known as squeezing "Sha"(Fig 103). 5. Tearing
On the basis of the squeezing manipulation, if one keeps pulling the skin until some petechiae appear under the subcutaneoustissues, the manipulation is named as tearing or tearing "Sha" (Fig.104).

6. Twisting
Also known as turning. In twisting, the manipulator pinches the skin with the flexed proximal interphalangeal joints of the index and middle fingers, then twists the skin rightward and leftward to make some petechiae appear under the subcutaneous tissue, which is also known as twisting "Sha" or turning "Sha"(Fig.105).

Squeezing, tearing, twisting, and turning are all the folk manipulations to treat "Sha" syndrome. They are often manipulated on the forehead, bridge of the nose, neck and nape, chest, bilateral sides of the spine, crook of the aim, hollow of the knee, and have the actions of ventilating Qi, dispersing pathogenic factors, opening the orifices and arousing the spirit, thus are very effective in treating a lot of internal emergencies. 7. Shifting
Putting the hand on the abdomen, the manipulator holds the abdomen as holding a fist and ulls it up, then loosens the hand and moves forward a little bit and repeats the above movements until the whole abdomen has been thoroughly acted on(Fig 1 06).The stimulation is strong, and it is applied to treat ascaris intestinal obstruction and intestinal adhesion of the children. 8. Concentrating
Two hands are put on the opposite locations of a joint to squeeze to its longitudinal axis, which is called concentrating or concentrating reduction. This manipulation belongs to the manipulations of rectifying tendon, and is usually applied to treat soft tissue injuries of a joint, such as the separation of the distal radioulnar joint (Fig 107).
