1. Rolling with the Meticarpo-Phalangeal Joints
During the process of rolling, the manipulator touches the body surface with the cambered surface of the handdorsum, so the stimulation is relatively mild and comfortable to the patient. In the course of spreading and applying the rolling manipulation, some manipulators think that a stronger pressing force and stimulation may be achieved by touching the body surface with the bone processes of the metacar pophalangeal joints and replacing the compound movement which combines the flexion-extension of the wrist with the rotation of the forearm with the simple flexion-extension of the wrist. The rolling with the metaearpo-pbalangeal joints is applicable to those who suffer from stiff muscles on the back and have slow reaction to the manipulation.See the Fig 85 for the manipulation and the Fig 86 for its touching areas. 2. Rolling with the Proximal Interphalangeal Joints
In this rolling manner, the proximal interphalangeal ioints of the index, middle and ring fingers are applied to touch the bodv surface and are made to roll forward and backward through fiexing and extending the wrist joint.Rolling with the proximal interphalangeal joints is appropriate for the head, and thus for treating headache, insomnia etc.See the Fig 87 for this manipulation, and the Fig 88 for its touching areas.
