Overview
Syndrome of milk secretion very few or none is called few milk after parturition, which is also called lack of lactation after parturition, or shortage of milk after parturition. It is often caused by innate weakness of the qi and blood, and excessive hemorrhage when childbirth, depletion of qi and blood, which will lead to shortage of source of generating qi and blood, inability to make milk; or innate depressed emotion; or depression after parturition, which causing stagnation of qi due to depression of the liver, running unsmoothly of milk, and lead to lack of lactation. Therapy with invigorate vital energy and blood, lactogenesis and soothing the milk; soothing the liver-qi, activating collaterals and soothing the milk.

Treatment
1. Shaoze (SI 1)
Let the patient be dorsal position or sitting, with routine sterilization, needle the point obliquely at the depth of about 0.3-0.5 cun with 1 curt 28 gauge filiform needle with mild twirling and rotating method after obtaining the qi, remain the needle for 20 minutes during which needle is manipulated 2 times for deficient syndrome. As for sthenia syndrome, choose triangle-edged needle to prick the point and cause hemorrhage after sterilization. Treatment is done once per day, and 5 days make up one course of treatment.

2. Zusanli (ST 36)
Let the patient be dorsal position or sitting, with routine sterilization, needle the point perpendicularly at the depth of about 1-1.5 cun with 2 curt 28 gauge filiform needle with mild twirling and rotating method after obtaining the qi till needling sensation such as sourness and distend transfer along the meridians' pathway, then remain the needle for 20 minutes during which the needle is manipulated 2 times. Acupuncture with warmed needle can also be used. It is done once every day, and 5 times make up one course of treatment.

3. Tanzhong (RN 17)
Let the patient be dorsal position, with routine sterilization, needle the point horizontally to both breasts at the depth of about 0.5-1 curt with 1.5 cun 28 gauge filiform needle till the breast has the sense of expand, then remain the needle for 30 minutes, and do moxibustion with moxa stick after withdrawing the needle for 10-15 minutes, which will result in the skin to blush. Treatment is done once every day, and 5 times make up one course of treatment.

4. Rugen (ST 18)
Let the patient be dorsal position, with routine sterilization, needle the point upwards at the depth of about 1 cun with 1.5 cun 28 gauge filiform needle till the breast has the sense of expand, remain 30 minutes, and treatment is done once every day, which 5 times make up one course of treatment.

Note
1. If lack of lactation not caused by organic change of lacteal gland, acupuncture will has a good effect.

2. Patient should combination with applied heat at breast to promote easy and smooth of meridian, in order to let the milk discharge smoothly. Patient can use water or spring onion soup to wash, or hydropathic compress on breast with hot tangerine pericarp soup.
