These acupoints are usually needled perpendicularly or obliquely 0.5 - 1.2 cun. The acupoints near the wrist are usually needled perpendicularly 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
The median nerve is in the deeper layer of the pericardium meridian of hand-jueyin. The electric shock-like sensation transmitting to the finger tips indicates the median nerve is punctured, the needle must be withdrawn immediately lest the median nerve be impaired. The occurrence of such electric shock-like sensation must be dealt with in time.
Quchi (LI 11) --It is needled perpendicularly 1 - 1.5 cun.
Lieque (LU 7)--It is needled obliquely towards the elbow 0.3 - 0.5 cun.
Pianli (LI 6) and Yanglao (SI 6)--They are needled perpendicularly or obliquely 0.5 - 0.8 cun.
