Urinary infection is caused by pathogenic bacteria which accrete and propagate in urine and infringe upon urethra mucosa or tissue. It is manifested by frequency of urination, urgent micturition, painful urination, difficult urination and lumbago. It belongs to "Ling syndrome" or "Long" in TCM. It is resulted mainly from accumulation of heat in the bladder and deficiency of the kidney. The therapeutic principle includes regulating Qi of bladder, clearing away the heat-evil, diuresis and alleviating pain.
Treatment
1. Zhongji (CV3)
It is sticked downward by 3 cun filiform needle. Keep on twisting after arrival of Qi to transmit needling sensation to the pudendal region and retain the needle 20 minutes. Once a day, 10 times as a course.
2. Zhibian (BL54)
The double Zhibian are sticked, the needle forming an angle of 600 with median line of sacral vertebrace, inserting the needle from 3-3.5 cun, retaining the needle 30 minutes. Once a day, 10 times as a course.
3. Wrist and Ankle Needle: down 5 (double)
It is manipulated with routine and indicated for chronic urinary infection, retaining the needle for 30 minutes once a day.
Note
Curative effect of acupuncture is very good to acute urinary infection and manifested by exitincting inflammation and relieving the signs. To chronic urethritis and cystitis, the curative effect is acceptable. But to chronic pyelonephritis, the effect is discontented unless medication.
