Acupuncture Point Wangu (GB12)
Location:
Sit upright or lie prostrate on one's side; in the depression posteroinferior to mastoid rocess of temporal bone.

Function:
Expelling wind and clearing heat, clearing and activating the channes and collaterals.

Regional Anatomy:
Skin-subcutaneous tissue-sternocleidomastoid muscle-splenius muscle of head-longest muscle head.
In the superficial layer, there are the lesser occipital nerce and the branches of tributaries of the posterior auricular artery and vein. In the deep layer, there are the deep cervical artery and vein. If the needle is inserted too deep, the vertebral artery may be injured.

Indications:
Headache, Insomnia, swelling of the cheek, Retroauricular pain, deviation of the eye and mouth, and toothache.

Prescription:
Combined use with HouxiSI3 (Houxi (SI 3) Shu-Stream Point, The Eight Confluent Point) for treatment of stiff neck; with FutuLI18 (Futu (LI18)) for treatment of tonsillitis; with XiaochangshuBL27 (Xiaochangshu (BL27)), PangguangshuBL28 (Pangguangshu (BL 28)), BaihuanshuBL30 (Baihuanshu (BL30)), and YanggangBL48 (Yanggang (BL48)) for treatment of dark urine; with FengchiGB20 (Acupuncture Single Point Fengchi (GB20)) for treatment of epilepsy; and with TianrongSI17 (Tianrong (SI 17)), QisheST11 (Qishe (ST11)) for treatment of sore throat.

Methods:
Insert the needle perpendicularly to 0.5-0.8; needling response: local numbness and distention; moxibustion: using 3-7 moxa-cones, or mild moxibustion for 10 min.
