Cellulite is the appearance of fat cells that have accumulated under the skin to form a dimpled or an orange peel-like appearance. This appearance of cellulite occurs on the abdomen, legs, hips and thighs. It’s also called the appearance of the cottage cheese skin.
There are many beauty products that claim to remove or reduce cellulite. These products, while growing in number, have not always been successful. Today there is a US FDA approved treatment that has apparently had a good success rate with removing cellulite. This treatment is called endermologie.

But what is endermologie? Endermologie, invented by French surgeons, is considered a safe procedure without the possibility or burns or scars, to get rid of cellulite. This procedure was invented by French surgeon Louis Paul Guitay to deal with scarring from burns. The treatment involved softening tissue and rebuilding muscle tone with repeated massages.
The procedure is patent to the United States of America and has had a good success rate. Most patients who take this treatment claim to have long lasting results but the cellulite is not gotten rid off permanently. Endermologie is done with the help of a machine, manufactured by only one company in the world. In order to do the treatment, you need certified instructors or need to get a certification to use the machine. Its main method of operation is massaging away the cellulite. Long term and regular massage is always considered for cellulite and this treatment follows this principle. Using endermologie does not get rid of cellulite completely. Frequency of this treatment might reduce but instructors usually recommend taking the treatment at regular intervals to keep cellulite at bay.
Typical treatment should last for 14-28 sessions, about twice a week to eventually once-a-month trips for maintenance. Along with the treatment, maintaining a healthy life is also necessary. Most treatments come with a caveat that you should not revert to an unhealthy lifestyle. That could reverse the changes made by the endermologie treatment.
These treatments are typically expensive and usually not covered by health insurance. The success and expense of this treatment has lead to the development of individual endermologie machines. Now you can even purchase smaller endermologie machines for use at home. These machines are smaller and can work on specific areas, coupled with cellulite creams. The efficacy of these machines is still under research. The company advises you to choose centers that have certified operators and the full fledged endermologie machines.
