Morning sickness during pregnancy or even nausea during pregnancy is commonly observed in most women in the first half of the pregnancy especially the first trimester. The severity or degree of the nausea varies from woman to woman. In some women the vomiting or nausea tends to stop after the third month of pregnancy but in some cases it has been observed to continue even in fourth or fifth month of pregnancy. One of the possible causes for morning sickness in pregnant women may be the hormonal changes or even an imbalance in the sugar levels in the blood. In women suffering from morning sickness there is usually a loss of appetite during early pregnancy and they may even become dehydrated which is harmful for both the mother and the child. Morning sickness

Women who vomit excessively on account of morning sickness during pregnancy tend to lose a large amount of liquids and nutrients which in turn results in overall weakness and dehydration that is addressed in critical cases by admitting the woman in the hospital and administering fluids using a drip. Women who tend a feel nauseous or sick early in the morning should take time getting out of bed and should keep foods like crackers at their bed side which they could snack on first thing in the morning. Rather than having two or three large meals during the day, pregnant women prone to morning sickness should eat several small meals during the day. This ensures that they get their required intake of nutrients and fluids. One should also avoid foods that are fried or oily or even too spicy as this tends to trigger the nausea. Similarly, alcohol and caffeine should also be eliminated from the diet of a pregnant woman.

A home treatment for reducing nausea and morning sickness associated with pregnancy is drinking ginger tea. One should also avoid smells that tend to make them feel like vomiting and instead increase the intake of carbohydrates. Pregnant women throughout their pregnancy should increase their intake of fluids especially clean drinking water as this keeps their body and skin hydrated and ensures that they do not get dehydrated. Women suffering from morning sickness should consult a doctor if they are vomiting more than four to five times during the day or if there is blood present in the vomit.
