A skin sore is an unfamiliar appearance on the skin, which looks like rashes, boils, wounds, swellings or bumps, which take weeks or sometimes months to heal. Typically these sores tend to multiply rapidly or recur. These sores at times may also be accompanied by fever or feeling of nausea.
Skin sores may be caused due to hundreds of reasons which may be difficult to detect. For instance sudden formation of bumps on the face may indicate that it may be HIVES or cold sore or a reaction to medicines.

Similarly, sores that itch and look like red blisters could be an allergic reaction to some plants like poison ivy or it could also be a sign of scabies. In children, skin sores or rashes are mostly the result of infections, allergies to insect bites or reaction to sudden changes in temperature.
It is always advisable to consult a physician for correct diagnoses and skin sores’ treatment, because some sores may actually indicate that you are suffering from other inner ailments like Lyme disease and diabetes. Sometimes sores do not heal and it should not be taken lightly. They may be indications of even more serious illnesses like skin cancer and AIDS.
Whatever the cause, sores generally indicate one of three things:
The skin does not agree with something that it has come in contact with, for example germs or an insect or a plant.
Something happening inside the body is being thrown out or being communicated via the skin.
Indication of some internal disease.
Self-care and treatment at home should be administered only if one is absolutely sure that the sore is something minor and something which does not need to be seen by a doctor. A minor sore will usually will cure by itself, but certain steps can be taken which may speed up the healing process. For instance, following home remedies can be tried in case a minor cold sore starts showing:
Apply ice wrapped in a towel for several minutes to the area.
Apply cold tea-bags to the area every hour.
Geranium or tea tree oil also helps pacify the sore.
Use Vaseline to keep the area soft and moisturized.
