1) Ice
As soon as possible put ice on the strained muscle. Wrap an ace bandage or towel around the ice. Put a cloth in between the ice and your skin. Do the ice treatment about 15 minutes each hour on the first day. Then for the next 3 days apply ice every 4 or so hours. As much as possible give the pulled muscle time to rest and heal. Keep it elevated if possible. When the pain begins to go down, start using the muscle slowly. Do some gentle massage to stimulate blood flow and enhance healing. Put red Tiger’s Balm on the area. If you have some DMSO, use that too as it will carry the Tiger’s Balm deep into the muscle or joint. You can get DMSO on line. Athlete’s have used it for decades for this purpose.
The best home cure for a muscle strain is to R&I – rest and ice. Take an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory like acetaminophen (aka Tylenol) to lessen the pain and bring the swelling down. As the pain subsided, put a little heat on it with a hot water bottle. Don’t ever use a heating pad – the alternating electromagnetic field is bad for you.
3) Homeopathic
Arnica is a good homeopathic cure for muscle strain and helps to heal from the inside out. Arnica has very strong anti-inflammatory properties and promotes healing of tissues.
An herb you can use to lessen the pain of a pulled muscle is Meadowsweet (Filipendula Ulmaria). It is sometimes referred to as Nature’s other aspirin. Two good homeopathic natural treatments for muscle strain are Magnesium Phosphoricum and Symphytum Officinale.
Take a teaspoon of flax seed oil twice a day until pain is gone. Flax seed oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids which is a proven natural anti-inflammatory.
4) Clove Oil Home Remedy for Muscle Strain
Put oil of clove on the area around and on the muscle strain. This is one of the best natural home cures for muscle strain.
