Traditional Chinese medicine holds that "blood serves to moisten the body and qi serves to warm the body." The viscera depend on blood to moisten and nourish, while blood depends on qi to promote circulation. Any impairment of this internal balance by excessive emotion (joy, anger, anxiety, worry, sadness, fear and fright), improper diet, cold pathogenic factors and asthenia of kidney qi may result in stagnation of qi and stasis of blood which consequently leads to coronary heart disease.
