There are a variety of types of anxiety, as discussed in the What is Anxiety? article, namely Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and whilst many of these disorders share symptoms, there are some symptoms specific to those ailments too.
Common characteristics displayed by high scorers on the anxiety scale as part of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Test including feeling:
Aware of dryness of the mouth, breathing difficulties, pounding of the heart, sweaty palms
Worried about performance and possible loss of control
Apprehensive and panicky
Trembling and shaky
Mental Symptoms
Repeated thoughts or flashbacks of traumatic experiences
Numbness and/or tingling in the hands and feet
Nausea
Muscle Tension
Dizziness
Uncontrollable and obsessive thoughts
Nightmares
Physical Symptoms
Problems going to sleep
Cold and/or sweaty hands and feet
Shortness of breath
Dry Mouth
Heart palpitations
