Syndrome differentiation and treatment
Clinically, the disease mainly manifests as the syndromes of wind and heat attacking the exterior, fire and heat of the liver and gallbladder as well as hyperactive fire due to yin deficiency. At the acute stage, treatment mainly concentrates on clearing away heat and purging fire from the liver and gallbladder; at the primary stage, dispelling wind is accompanied; at the chronic stage, treatment focuses on nourishing yin and clearing away heat.
1. Syndrome of wind and heat attacking the exterior
Main symptoms and signs: Red and swollen,scorching and painful external auditory canal, or with fever and aversion to cold, diffuse swelling of the external
auditory canal or a bit of purulent secretion found during the examination, thin and white fur, floating and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Dispelling wind and clearing away heat, relieving swelling to check pain.
2. Syndrome of fire and heat of the liver and gallbladder
Main symptoms and signs: Diffuse red swelling and severer pain of the external auditory canal, or with pyorrhea, feverish body, dysphoria, thirst with inclination to drink, dry stool, red tongue with yellowish fur, taut and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Clearing away heat from the liver and gallbladder, purging fire and relieving swelling.
3. Syndrome of hyperactive fire due to yin deficiency
Main symptoms and signs: Itching and uncomfortable external auditory canal with a bit of purulent secretion, rough and thickened skin of the external auditory canal, or with the crust and squame, red tongue with thin fur, thready and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Nourishing yin and moistening dryness, clearing away heat and relieving swelling.
