Essentials for diagnosis
(1) The number of defecation increases obviously, reaching up to more than 10 times a day. The stool is thin or like egg soup, or intermingled with a little mucus. In severe cases, the stool is watery. The disease may be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fever,thirst, etc..

(2) In the case of severe diarrhea, vomiting is serious, with the symptoms like scanty urine, dysphoria with restlessness, or listlessness, dry skin, sunken socket of eyeball and fontanel, cry without tears, cherry-coloured red lips, deep and long breathing, abdominal distension and cold limbs.

(3) The patient has the history of improper feeding, unhygienic diet or attack by exogenous pathogenic factors.

(4) Microscopic examination indicates fat globules, a small number of red and white blood cells in the stool, or watery stool with nothing abnormal.

In TCM, a disease or a symptom might be caused by one pathogenic factor, even two or three pathogenic factors.
