Brandy nose refers to a dermal disease occurring on the nose, characterized primarily by flushed color on the nose and secondarily by papule, impetigo and telangiectasis, and hence rhinophyma. The etiology of this disease is not known. In the recent years, it was found that mites could be detected in the infected areas in over 90 % patients. Therefore, it is believed that its occurrence is related to parasitism of mites. This disease belongs to the category of "Brandy Nose" in Chinese medicine.
It is mostly caused by steaming up of the accumulated heat in the lung and stomach, and obstruction of blood stasis after secondary invasion of pathogenic wind and cold, or obstruction in the muscle and skin due to steaming of wines in the alcoholics and secondary invasion of pathogenic wind and cold.
