Treatment Based on Syndrome Differentiation:
1. Syndrome of Mixture of Heat-Toxin and Dampness
Main Symptoms: Sudden onset, fresh red color and tumefaction in skin lesions, accompanied by blisters or pustules, erosion, effusion, crust, spontaneous burning
sensation and pain, or by fever, dry mouth or greasy sensation in the mouth, brown urine, loose stool or constipated stool, reddened tongue, yellowish coating, slippery and rapid pulse.
Therapeutic Methods: Clear away heat, dissolve toxins, disperse dampness and expel wind.
2. Syndrome of Excessive Wind and Blood Dryness
Main Symptoms: Long-term and frequent contact with allergic substances, thick and dry skin lesions with desquamation, serious itching, dry mouth, dry tonguewith scanty fluid, thin and whitish coating, thready pulse.
Thorapeutic Methods: Clear away heat, expel wind, nourish blood and moisten dryness.
Other Therapies:
1. Application of Wet Dressing
It is advisable to use 10 % Huangbai ( Cortex Phellodendri) water, or grind Dahuang (Radix er Rhizoma Rhei ), Huangqin ( Radix Scutellariae), Huangbai ( Correx Phellodendri ) and Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flarescentis) in equal amount into powder and take 10- 30 g each time to be infused with boiling water for application of cold and wet dressing on the infected region, once or twice a day. It is suitable for acute patients.
2. Smearing Method
It is advisable to use "Huanglian Ointment" or "Jia Wei Huanglian Ointment" externally, twice or three times a day. It is suitable for chronic patients.
Cautions
It is necessary to avoid contacting the allergic irritants. It is not advisable to wash the infected regions with hot water or soap water and necessary to avoid scratching the local regions and also prohibited to use external drugs with strong irritation.
