Haematuria is itself a symptom and characterized by presence of blood in urine. The colour of urine may be normal wherein it is termed as microscopic haematuria. Alternatively urine can be red or cola coloured where it is termed as macroscopic haematuria. Microscopic haematuria is characterized by normal appearance of urine wherein the presence of red blood cells can only be detected on microscopic examination. Gross haematuria, also called macroscopic haematuria is characterized by change in colour of urine which is evident with naked eye. Symptoms of haematuria according to the theory of TCM include:
1. Urinary Bladder Oppressed by Heat
Mian symptoms: Frequent urination, burning heat sensation, fever, dry mouth, bitter taste, difficult to urinate.
2. Excessive Heat in the Heart
Mian symptoms: dry mouth, painful urination, difficult to urinate, thirst, dry mouth, insomnia, red tongue, rapid pulse.
3. Deficiency of Kidney and Liver Yin
Mian symptoms: dry mouth, hot flash, night sweat, tinnitus, insomnia, scanty urine, red tongue, rapid pulse.
4. Deficiency of Spleen and Kidney Yang
Mian symptoms: weakness, loss of appetite, fatigue, loose and thin stool, pale complexion, vertigo, tinnitus, weakness of limbs.
