Symptoms of hydronephrosis and common coexisting conditions and underlying causes of hydronephrosis can vary. Sometimes there may be no symptoms at first. Symptoms of Hydronephrosis based on the theory of TCM:
1. Pattern of Kidney Yin Deficiency
Main symptoms: Soreness of waist and knees, swelling, scanty urine, dark yellow urine, dry throat and mouth, poor appetite, constipation, insomnia, tinnitus, red tongue, yellow coating, thin and slip pulse.

2. Pattern of Spleen Deficiency
Main symptoms: fatigue, shortness of breath, difficult to urinate, light tongue, weak pulse.

3. Pattern of Qi and Blood Stagnation
Main symptoms: Soreness of waist and knees, stomach distension, pale complexion, aversion to cold, fatigue, greasy tongue, deep and weak pulse.

4. pattern of Qi due to damp-Heat
Main symptoms: backache, stomach distension, scanty urine, vomit, dry mouth, bitter taste, poor appetite, constipation, red tongue, yellow and greasy coating, slip pulse.
