INGREDIENTS
Fleece-flower root, Radix Polygoni Multiflori (Heshouwu) powder
Polished round-grained rice, Semen Oryzae Sativae 50g
Chinese-date, Fructus giziphi Jujubae 2
White sugar ( right amount)
PROCESS: Wash fleece-flower root clean and dry it in the sun; then grind it into fine powder. Choose 50g of first class polished round-grained rice, two Chinese-dates, right amount of white sugar and put them all into an earthenware pot; add 500ml of water and cook them together to make thin gruel. Then, put the powdered fleece-flower root (20 to 30g at a time); stir it gently to mix it thoroughly; go on cooking it over a slow fire until it has boiled several times. Stop cooking when the gruel is thick and sticky. Cover the pot tight for five minutes.
DIRECTIONS: Take it warm at one draught, twice a day, at breakfast and at supper. The gruel can exert a tonic effect on the heart, lower blood lipid and blood pressure. Do not use ironware to cook the gruel.
