VARIANT NAMES: Shimi (Stone Honey), Shiyi, Shimi (Food Honey), Mi, Baimi, Baishami, Mitang, Fengtang.
ORIGIN: The honey sugar made by Apris cerana, an insect of Apidae.
CHEMICAL COMPOSITION: Containing fructose, glucose (about 70%), a little sucrose, maltobiose, dextrin, gum,compounds containing nidrogen, organic acid, volatile oil, pigment, wax, plant bits, yeast, ferment and inorganic salt.
NATURE, FLAVOR AND CHANNEL TROPISM: Sweet in flavor and neutral in nature, acting on the channels of the lung, spleen and large intestine.
EFFICIENCIES AND INDICATIONS: Strengthening the middle-jiao, moistening dryness, relieving spasm and clearing away toxic materials. It is used to treat cough due to Obstructive Emphysema, Constipation due to intestine dryness, epigastralgia, rhinorrhea with turbid discharge, Behcet's Disease, scald, burn. It is also used to remove aconitic toxicity.
DIRECTIONS: To be taken soon after deing infused, or to be used as an ingredient of boluses or soft extract. When used externally, it can treat local hot scald. It should be avoided by those who have the symptoms of accumulation of phlegm-dampness in the body, abdominal distention and lingering diarrhea.
