Evaluation for a patient with blood in urine(hematuria)

Condition analysis:
Typically, we perform the same workup for both microscopic hematuria and gross hematuria.

If a patient presents with hematuria, we usually evaluate the entire urinary tract via (i) CAT scan of the abdomen and pelvis with IV contrast, to evaluate the kidneys and the ureters, and (ii) cystoscopy, to examine the inside of the bladder endoscopically.

The evaluation may vary based on certain factors, such as whether the patient can receive IV contrast for CAT scan, and if the patient already has a known diagnosis. Past laboratory results, including creatinine level, urinalysis and urine culture, will also influence the decision on further urologic work-up. However, in short, any patient with microscopic hematuria should be referred to a urologist.

The most effective treatment for the disease largely depend on the cause. If the condition is caused by a urinary tract infection, you may want to create a mixture of ? teaspoon of baking soda in eight ounce glass of water and drink regularly. This treatment option is known to be very effective in the treatment of urinary tract infections.

Cranberry juice has the ability to prevent bacteria from adhering to bladder walls or parts of the urinary tract. You could also add some apple juice to the mix to add some flavor.

Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of home remedies that help treat hematuria when the condition is not caused by another underlying medical condition.

However, you could try to introduce a greater amount of bitter gourd in your daily diet as it is known to be especially beneficial when dealing with this condition.

Another option to help speed the recovery process would mix a little white pumpkin with a little sugar cane juice. Stop smoking or drinking as soon as you notice the presence of blood in the urine as well as habits can intensify the condition.
