The source is from the fruit of Foeniculum Vulgare Mill., family Umbelliferae. The medicinal material is produced in all parts of China, collected in autumn when the fruits begin to be ripe and dried in the sun. The crude herbal medicine can be used or is parched with salt water for use.
Medicinal Properties: Pungent in flavor, warm in nature and attributive to the liver, kidney, spleen and stomach meridians.
Actions: Expel cold to alleviate pain, and regulate the stomach-qi.
Application
1. It is used for colic of cold type and orchidoptosis. It is an essential medicine to treat colic of cold type. It is usually combined with Wuyao (Radix Linderae), Qingpi (Pericarpium Cirri Reticulatae Viride ) and Gaoliangjiang (Rhizoma Alpiniae Officinarum ), such as Tiantai Wuyao San (Powder).
2. For qi stagnation due to stomach-cold with epigastric distention and pain, vomiting and loss of appetite, combined with Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis) and Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae ) .
Usage and Dosage: 3 - 6 g is used in decoction for oral use and just right amount for external use.
