This is a nasal condition caused by trauma, inflammation, polyp or tumor of nose, or general diseases of the body including hypertension, arteriosclerosis, hematological diseases, pulmonary cardiac disease, rheumatic fever, intoxication, avitaminosis, and febrile infectious diseases.
Treatment:
Foot massage: The massage is applied to frontal sinus (2), nose (6), parathyroid gland (13) and lymph nodes (upper body, chest and abdomen, 39, 41 and 40) reflecting areas (Fig. 113). When the nose bleeds, a gentle massage may be applied to nose (6), parathyroid gland (13) and frontal sinus (2) reflecting areas for 5 to 10 minutes, and at the same time a cold compress applied to the forehead and nasal root region also helps stop bleeding.
Foot acupuncture:
1) Meridianal acupoints: At Kunlun (BL60), Lidui (ST 45), Shenmai (BL62), Jinggu (BL64), Zutonggu (BL66), Zhiyin (BL 67), Yongquan (KI 1), Taixi (KI3)
and Xingjian (LR 2) acupoints, a reducing acupuncture technique is applied and the needles are retained for 30 minutes.
2) Foot acupoints: A moderate acupuncture stimulation is applied at the Head and face (FA-P 1) and Lung (FA-P 6) acupoints and the needles are retained for 20 minutes.
External application of drugs:
1) Nasal bleeding uncontrollable by the oral administration of drugs: Garlic paste the size of a coin, 1-2 mm thick, is applied to the foot contralateral to the nostril reflecting area for nose bleeding and is applied to both feet, if there is bleeding from both nostrils.
2) Nasal bleeding in pregnant women: Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu)">Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu) 12 gm is soaked in yellow wine for several hours and a wet compress with the tincture is applied to the soles before going to bed; or the powder of Wuzhuyu is mixed with vinegar to prepare a paste for application to the central area of soles.
3) Nasal bleeding: Five bulbs of peeled garlic is pounded with Shengdi (rehmannia root) 15 gm to prepare a paste the size of a coin, 1-2 nun thick, for application at the central area of the sole contralateral to the nostril reflecting area, and at the same time the juice of Jiucaigen (root of Chinese chives) is diluted with water for oral administration. Nasal bleeding will be stopped within 5 minutes.
4) The powder of Dahuang (raw rhubarb), Zhizi (cape-jasmine fruit), Huanglian (Chinese goldthread rhizome), 20 gm each, and Rougui (cinnamon bark) 5 gm, is mixed with vinegar to prepare small cakes for application to Yongquan acupoints to cure nose bleeding caused by heat pathogens in blood.
