Applications of handtherapy:
Massage therapy:
Location: Kidney area, reproductive area, reproductive gland area, both little fingers, and Mingmen (life gate) point.
Method of manipulation: The hands are rubbed to produce a hot sensation. Persistent pressing and kneading maneuvers applied at kidney area, reproductive area, reproductive gland area and kidney reflective point; pinching maneuver at Mingmen point; and twisting and rotating both little fingers.
Acupuncture therapy: Same as that for emission of semen.
Hand bath:
Recipe: Cortex Eucommiae (Duzhong) 50 g, Ramulus Taxilli (Sangjisheng) 30 g, Fructus Lycii (Gouqizi) 30 g, Cynomorium coccineum (Suoyang) 30 g, Ramulus Cinnamomi (Guizhi) 30 g, Herba Epimedii (Yinyanghuo) 30 g, Semen Cuscutae (Tusizi) 30 g.
Function: To warm and tone kidney yang, essence, and blood.
Method of manipulation: A hot decoction of these herbs is used to steam and then wash both hands for 30 minutes, twice a day.
Hand qigong: Physical and breathing exercise for kidney diseases.
The patient assumes a straight sitting position or sitting with legs crossed posture with eyes closed and the breath quiescent. Both arms are raised to the ears fully extended, and then drooped down until freely hanging beside the thighs, three to five times. The right hand is raised from the side of thigh to chest level and swayed to the right side as if throwing an object, and this movement is then repeated on the left side. This exercise of swaying arms to both sides is repeated several times.
