Applications of hand therapy:
Massage therapy:
Location: Head, mouth, eye, liver, and kidney areas, fingers, head acupoint beside the second metacarpal bone, Erjian (LI 2), Hegu (LI 4).
Method of manipulation: Pressing and kneading maneuvers applied to head, mouth, eye, liver, and kidney areas; digitpressing and kneading maneuvers at Erjian (LI 2), Hegu (LI 4) and head acupoints; twisting, pulling, and rotating fingers.
Acupuncture therapy:
At regular and extra acupoints:
Location: Hegu (L1 4), Quchi (LI 11)
Method of manipulation: The needles are retained for 30 minutes.
At reflective areas:
Location: The corresponding areas of the face in the palmar reflective areas and ulnar or radial reverse palmar reflective areas.
Method of manipulation: The needles are shallowly inserted, but not retained.
Herb-holding therapy:
Herbs: Herba Ephedrae (Mahuang) 6 g, Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae (Fangji) 6 g, Herba Schizonepetae (Jingjie) 6 g, Ramulus Cinnamomi (Guizhi) 9 g, Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) 15 g, Radix Saposhnikoviae (Fangfeng) 2 g, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Praeparata (Fuzi) 4 g.
Method of manipulation: A powder of these herbs is mixed with a paste of green onion stalks for holding in the palms to induce slight sweating, once a day.
