Lipodystrophy is a problem of the fatty tissue marked by localized body fat loss. People suffering from lipodystrophy are more likely to have insulin resistance, diabetes, elevated triglyceride, and enlarged liver. There are a lot of types of lipodystrophy that are hereditary or acquired. The inherited types of lipodystrophy involve congenital generalized lipodystrophy, Dunnigan type, Kobberling type, the mandibuloacral dysplasia type, etc. The non-inherited types of lipodystrophy involve acquired generalized lipodystrophy, acquired partial lipodystrophy and lipodystrophy associated with treating HIV.
